My Hot Take: Scan-Dalous New Tools in Wellness

While celebrity trends may catch our eye, let's focus on practical wellness strategies that resonate with our everyday lives. Did you see the latest wellness fad? I'm talking about those whole-body MRI scans. But before you start saving up for your own scan, let's pause for a hot second. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a stickler for loving advancements in Western science and immediately wanting to try something new, but I think it’s important to remember that just because something is unique doesn’t mean you need it. Who knew that knowing too much about your body could lead to a case of TMI fatigue?

While MRI scans are valuable for identifying health issues, they may also cause stress for individuals who struggle with processing additional information. Anxiety triggers the body's fight, flight or freeze responses, which do not facilitate healing. Healing occurs during periods of rest. Therefore, it's essential to consider whether the potential anxiety caused by the influx of information from MRI scans is truly beneficial.

Wellness is finding what works best for you, not chasing fleeting fads..

The Move: Winter Foot Rejuvenation Routine

These foot exercises are ideal before engaging in winter sports as they help strengthen and mobilize the muscles and joints crucial for stability and balance. No ski slope is required, but, the perfect pregame to blue skies and fresh powder.

Toe Scrunches:

  • I want you to put a towel down on the floor (I like to use a hand towel)

  • Spread your toes

  • Do 10 scrunches, focusing on webbing your toes and bringing the towel closer to your body.

  • 3 sets of 10 reps.

Toe Yoga:

  • Push all four toes into the floor and lift your big toe for five seconds.

  • Now, press the big toe into the floor and lift the other four toes for 5 seconds.

  • Practice this exercise for improved foot dexterity.

  • One foot will usually be easier than the other, but that’s okay!

  • 3 sets for each foot

Ankle Alphabet:

  • This can be done at any time!

  • Legs overhead at the end of the day or sitting at the edge of your bed… however it works best for you.

  • Make sure you do both ankles, left predominantly

  • You are simply drawing the alphabet with your foot/ankle

Winter Wisdom Wrapped in Pages

Shout out to my client, who introduced me to "Wintering" by Katherine May. It's like a warm blanket for your soul, reminding us that it's okay to hit the pause button and hibernate our way to healing. This book is your perfect companion for those long winter nights, teaching us to embrace the ebb and flow of our personal seasons. In winter, our leaves have fallen, our bare bones have been revealed, and we wonder what next…

“We have seasons when we flourish and seasons when the leaves fall from us, revealing our bare bones. Given time, they grow again.”
